STANDARD TEST METHODS

Standard test methods are used world-wide for quality control. Due to our constant efforts to improve the precision and ease of use of our products Ravenfield HTHS instruments are referenced by at least three standards bodies across the globe

There are ASTM standards for almost every measurement or product imaginable. Ravenfield are proud to belong to ASTM D.02 – the committee which oversees test methods relating to petroleum products. In fact ASTM D 4741 is the standard test for measuring High Temperature High Shear viscosity of engine lubricants using Ravenfield viscometers.

The Ferranti Portable Viscometer is specified in method ASTM D 3245 and Ravenfield can supply the complete equipment for this method.

In Europe the body which monitors industry standards is the Coordinating European Council (CEC). CEC L-36 A-90 is the European standard test for HTHS viscosity and is technically identical to ASTM D 4741. CEC test methods are over seen by surveillance groups and that responsible for the Ravenfield test is CEC SL-036. This group meets once or twice a year and is currently chaired by Bob Mainwaring of Shell Global Solutions, Thornton England. All users of Ravenfield HTHS instruments are entitled to attend these meetings.

The third body which publishes a HTHS test method is the Institute of Petroleum . IP 370 is also technically identical to ASTM D 4741 and CEC L-36 A-90.
